Drawdown is a bastard!

The April trading competition is getting close to completion and I’m more than likely going to miss out on a top 5 place. I was hoping to be somewhere near the top 5, though I can’t say I’m disappointed. During the 2 weeks of this competition I’ve had reasonable returns of about 2-3% (I think […]

Aus 49er Campaign

I wonder what’s going on with Nath and Ben’s 49er campaign, it seems that they had a great buildup to last years worlds, since then (with the exception of the Australian championships, though that might say more about our fleet) they’ve been having ordinary results, their latest is 22nd at Hyeres. Will and Jon beat […]

Airfreighting Boats

How’s this for cool? In Europe they fly the M2 cats by chopper from lake to lake to save them the time of dismantling/reassembling the boats!
“What the hell,” you ask? This M2 cat is airborne as the […]

First time Geocaching

I’ve been going crazy being stuck behind the computer or going shopping or the movies or similar without any real physical activity, so today I was determined to do something that would at least get me doing something remotely physical. My plan to go for a sail didn’t come to anything (it’s hard sometimes when […]

Alinghi has a bendy keel?

Some interesting speculation I read about at Sailing Anarchy, there are rumours that Alinghi has a bendy keel. If so then it’s a quite a clever workaround to a canting keel, and quite a engineering achievement to get it to work with a massive chunk of lead hanging off the bottom of it.

Damn News

Last night there was some US news which caused my (in competition, I haven’t been trading AUD live because of my trouble with just these types of spikes) AUD position taken out for a very small profit by my trailing (manually) stop loss, it was a bit of a bummer since it was just a […]

Trading Competition Progress

In todays update I’ve been passed by a couple of other competitors so now I’m down to 5th… maybe being risky would’ve been a better way to do well. I’ll keep playing it as I’ve planned and will be interested to see if any of those above me have a decent sized drawdown to help […]

Foiling Moth Photo

Checkout (click on the pic for a bigger version) the bend in the foils on this bladerider!
photo from Graham Vials, there are a heap more at Fotoboat, I’ve included one that looks cool at the bottom of this post.
It’s good to see them releasing some news, otherwise without seeing boats on the water it appears […]
