I’m pretty much in awe of Francis Joyon, when he set his previous record some years back that Ellen Macarthur subsequently broke I was absolutely amazed (particularly so considering he was sailing what was designed as a fully crewed boat). After sadly wrecking the old IDEC on the rocks, he has built a new boat that is sensationally quick! He’s already a couple of days up on Ellen’s record and looks to have timed the weather systems beautifully.
It’s one of the first sites I check each morning (I just check the chart as my French is pretty ordinary).
Thomas Coville is due to go for the same record in the coming weeks, it is a pity they weren’t able to start together as that would’ve made for a great race!
Groupama 3 are also preparing to make an assault on the fully crewed record!
